“Matteo Salvini deserves thanks, appreciation and recognition”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó declared on his Facebook page on Friday after Italy’s Parliament waived the opposition Liga party leader’s parliamentary immunity.
Mr. Szijjártó emphasised that the liberal mainstream media is reporting triumphantly about the waiving of the parliamentary immunity “of the same Matteo Salvini who did not want illegal immigrants, people smugglers and their allies, the so-called non-governmental organisations, to make a mockery of Italian and European laws, and to arbitrarily dock in Italy while breaking all possible regulations, and by doing so to illegally enter Europe”.
As he explained, Salvini decided to protect Italy and to protect Europe. “He decided that he would prove that what Hungary has successfully achieved on dry land can also be done on the seas, meaning that it is indeed possible to protect Europe’s external borders both on land and on sea”, the Minister added.
“By doing so, Matteo Salvini exposed one of Brussels’ huge lies”, the politician stated. “In recent years all we heard was that it is impossible to protect maritime borders”, he added, noting that Salvini proved that: “Europe can indeed also be protected from the direction of the sea”. “All that is needed to achieve this is for us to take our own regulations seriously and to enforce them. There are laws regulating the crossing of borders with which everyone is obliged to comply”, Mr. Szijjártó wrote.
