“Migration is a jackpot for terrorist organisations in view of the fact that terrorists can easily hide amidst the waves of uncontrolled migration”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Thursday in New York at a UN discussion on terrorism.

In his speech, he explained that unfortunately terrorist organisations are still controlling processed in several places around the world, and in addition, starting out form the conflict zones that are under their control, their activities are having a global effect, and they regularly commit acts of terrorism in other locations.

“Terrorist organisations are always changing their tactics”, Mr. Szijjártó highlighted. “it is enough to think of the Islamic State, which after having lost 98 percent of the territories previously under its control has switched to a tactic of using sole assailants and sleeper cells, and is attempting to send its terrorists to various points around the globe, including Europe”, he stated, adding that the terrorists are also attempting to get into Europe via the Western Balkan region by exploiting the waves of migration.

“It may also be observed that it is enough to pay a few thousand dollars to the people smugglers and get onto a rubber dinghy on the shores of Africa, after which a boat owned by a non-governmental organisation will collect the migrants, together with the terrorists who are mingled in with them, and bring the to the south of Italy, from where they can freely travel to anywhere in Europe”, Mr. Szijjártó highlighted.

“Those who are inspiring migration processes, meaning people who are arguing in favour of open ports and the mandatory resettlement quota, are essentially bringing a greater threat of terrorism to Europe”, he underlined.

He stressed that the countries of Central Europe are taking determined action against the mandatory resettlement quota and against open ports, and are taking action in favour of border protection.

“However, migration processes have a large number of supporters in the UN and in its member states”, the Minister said, adding that they are making things easier for the terrorists.

In his speech, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said that terrorist organisations are also using state-of-the-art technological equipment and solutions to plan and commit their attacks.
