According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, in contrast with the UN, Hungary believes that migration is bad and can be stopped.

In his speech at a forum held at Hungary’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations entitled “Changes in Global Politics: the Challenges Facing Hungary” on Monday, Mr. Szijjártó highlighted: “With regard to the debate on the UN global migration package, Hungary is questioning the fundamental assumption that migration is good and unstoppable”. “According to the UN, this is a basic fact and accordingly cannot be called into question, but in Hungary’s opinion this statement must indeed be called into question, because migration is bad and must be stopped”, he declared.

“The European events of the past two and a half years clearly indicate that migration is bad, as proven by unsuccessful social integration processes and the increased threat of terrorism”, the Foreign Minister pointed out.
“Hungary has proven that migration can be stopped; it has built the border security fence and defended the border”, he highlighted.

“The world and the UN must respect the fact that every country has the right to maintain its sovereignty, its security and its identity, and it cannot be stripped of these rights by any kind of international pressure”, Mr. Szijjártó stressed.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister also spoke about the fact that the main dividing line between the parties are the upcoming general election is whether they are pro-immigration or anti-immigration.

Mr. Szijjártó encouraged the Hungarians present at the forum to take part in the elections because, as he explained, the opinion of all members of the Hungarian nation are important, no matter where they may live.
