“Migration is a bad and dangerous phenomenon, but it can be stopped”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stressed at an election forum in Budapest on Thursday.

The Fidesz politician reminded those present that hundreds of thousands of immigrants had “galloped across” the country a few years ago. “If anyone claims that is an acceptable thing, that is a huge problem”, he added.
The UN’s proposals for introducing quotas are “playing into the hands” of people smugglers, he emphasised. “The UN wants to have the world accept that migration is a fundamental human right. If this occurs, everyone will be able to come and go as they please”, the Minister warned.

“According to experiences in Western Europe, huge numbers of immigrants from a different culture cannot be integrated, and parallel societies are dangerous”, he noted.

“In contrast to the West, we are not expecting migration to solve our economic and demographic difficulties, but are relying on family policy, for instance”, he declared. “We need children, not migrants”, Mr. Szijjártó added. “We want the Hungarians to be able to decide who can enter the country, not the UN or the EU”, he underlined.

“Brussels has not given up its plans to introduce a mandatory quota, and is interfering in the Hungarian elections because Hungary is putting up the greatest level of resistance”, he also stated.

According to the Minister, a few years ago Europe was the most competitive and safest continent, and was clearly Christian, but by now this has been called into question. This is at odds with Hungary’s goals, and accordingly we must fight, because otherwise Hungary will also lose its competitiveness, security and Christian character, he said.

At the event, Member of Parliament and candidate for Rákosmente and Kőbánya Mónika Dunai (Fidesz) stressed that she would not like to the see the construction of migrant villages and communities.

The issue at hand is whether “the flood of achievements will be washed away by the flood of migrants”, she added. The politician called on the audience not to support politicians who serve foreign interests and who are breaking their oaths.

At the election forum, Mayor of Budapest’s 17th District Levente Riz (Fidesz-KDNP) spoke about the fact that the decision on 8 April will be an easy one, because there will be two types of candidate: one who supports migration, and another who would instead “like us to live our lives in Hungary in peace and security according to our own will”. He asked the audience to support the Fidesz-KDNP coalition at the elections.
