The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has made an official complaint to the Austrian Ambassador to Budapest with reference to comments made by Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann in German news magazine Der Spiegel, and has summoned the Ambassador to visit the Ministry on Monday morning.

Our Ambassador to Vienna told the Minister in charge of the German Chancellery that Hungary rejects the accusations.

According to Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, the Chancellor is probably making “foolish” and slanderous remarks in the hope of internal political gains. “We reject and object to these statements in the strongest terms possible”, Mr. Szijjártó stressed.
