At a press conference in Budapest on Friday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Tibor Navracsics said that the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Kuwait offers a good opportunity to strengthen and renew the friendship between the two countries.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Tibor Navracsics met Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled for talks in Budapest on Friday. After the meeting he said that the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic links between the two countries was a good opportunity to strengthen their friendship.

Mr. Navracsics told the press conference that, from the point of view of politics, both countries are among the most stable in their respective regions. Kuwait can offer Hungary important insights for analysis of the Arab world and similarly Hungary can help Kuwait understand trends in Central and Eastern Europe, he added. 

DownloadPhoto: Szilárd Koszticsák, MTIThe two countries are cooperating in a number of policy areas and the newly-signed agreements in agriculture, water management and health care can be beneficial to both countries in developing new links, he said.

Hungary and Kuwait share similar views on several issues, and this enables them to act together in various international organisations, he added.

After the press conference, the ministers signed bilateral agreements. One was a letter of intent to intensify links and cooperation in agriculture. Another was a letter of intent to strengthen technological and scientific capabilities in water management, and a third was an accord on development cooperation in health care.
