WizzAir’s first direct flight to the Moroccan city of Agadir took off from Budapest on 31 October 2017. The official launch of the new air service at Liszt Ferenc International Airport was also attended by Moroccan Minister of Tourism Mohamed Sajid.

In his speech to mark the launch of the new air passenger route, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Deputy State Secretary Szilveszter Bús highlighted: “It is in the interests of the Hungarian people and the Hungarian economy for as many direct air passenger links as possible to be established between Budapest and various parts of the world. The Ministry is supporting these aspirations with all passible instruments”.

The Deputy State Secretary pointed out that thanks to Hungarian diplomatic and foreign trade expansion, relations between Hungary and the North African region have never been so dynamic and modern. “We are also proud of the results we have already achieved within the field of Hungarian-Moroccan relations. Our cooperation within the fields of foreign trade, agriculture, healthcare, culture, sport and education have been continuously deepened in recent years. There are regular high-level meetings between the two countries. The third session of the Hungary-Morocco Joint Economic Committee will be held in Rabat in early November”, he explained.

Mr. Bús referred to the fact that Hungary wants to become one of Europe’s top five tourist destinations via the National Tourism Development Strategy 2030. “The new Budapest-Agadir air passenger route will no doubt also contribute to achieving this goal.

Hungarian diplomacy is continuing its efforts to facilitate further direct links”, the Deputy State Secretary said.
