“Hungary is supporting Christian communities in difficulties to the best of its abilities, and accordingly it is natural that it is also prepared to take part in the reconstruction of Notre Dame Cathedral”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told reporters in Budapest on Tuesday.

In reply to a question from the press, Mr. Szijjártó said that in addition to providing financial assistance, the Government could also undertake coordination tasks if Hungarian professionals are required to save the Paris cathedral, which burned down on Monday evening.

The Minister expressed his solidarity with France and the French Catholic community, calling the fire a “common tragedy for all European people”.

“Hungary does not differentiate between the world’s Christians and supports them with relation to both persecution and natural disasters, and offered its assistance in a similar manner recently following the Mexican earthquake, which also destroyed several churches”, he stated.
