Péter Szijjártó consulted with Federal Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini and U.S. Ambassador Colleen Bell this morning.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade informed that an agreement was reached at the Budapest meeting of Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orbán yesterday, which is significant for Hungary’s energy security. Péter Szijjártó said that the energy security of Central Europe is an all-European issue and a European responsibility; therefore, it is a positive development for the entire European Union that Hungary can use the remaining gas in its former long-term supply contract from 2016 onwards.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade informed his colleagues that yesterday Viktor Orbán had made it clear for the Russian President that the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict is the only acceptable solution for Hungary. Péter Szijjártó also emphasised that reasonable cooperation is needed with Russia while we are working on the establishment of European competitiveness and energy security.
