Péter Szijjártó, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade met Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy Amos J. Hochstein to discuss Central Europe’s energy security on Thursday in Budapest, announced Judit Fülöp, press chief at the State Secretariat to MTI.

Péter Szijjártó was quoted as saying that the addition of new natural gas resources is critically important for the energy security of Central Europe, and it calls for investments. Hungary has already made the necessary investments by establishing the connections to the gas pipeline networks of the neighbouring countries.

The State Secretary considered it absolutely essential that other countries also take appropriate measures and observe the relevant requirements of the European Union in order to improve energy security in the region.

Hungary is looking forward to investments by Romania and Croatia, which would allow two-way shipments through the interconnectors between Hungary and Romania, and Hungary and Croatia, Péter Szijjártó was reported as saying.
