Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó held several sets of talks with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, Czech Foreign Minister Tomas Tomáš Petříček and Slovakian Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok on Monday and Tuesday concerning the possible easing of the restrictions introduced with relation to traffic across Hungary’s common borders with the countries in question.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Mr. Szijjártó wrote: “In addition to the priority of protecting human life and health, important criteria with relation to decisions will also include the unhindered nature of economic and trade relations, reenabling contact between communities living along the border, and a return towards normal life”. He highlighted that the government welcomes the easing of certain measures on the part of the Austrian and Slovakian authorities, and the Hungarian Cabinet will soon also be discussing decisions to assure mutuality.
