Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó discussed transport links with Romanian Minister of Transport Lucian Şova in Budapest on Tuesday, the Ministry said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI.
In view of the extremely close economic cooperation between Hungary and Romania, the establishment of as many transport links as possible is in the mutual interests of both countries, the statement reads.
The second motorway link between the two countries, which will connect the Northern Transylvanian motorway to Hungary’s M4 motorway, will be completed by 2020.
Two of the ten border crossing points that are currently only open on weekends will soon be open permanently, the statement continued.
It is the intention of both countries for Hungary and Romania to be connected to the European high-speed rail network as soon as possible, the Ministry also highlighted.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó informed the Romanian Transport Minister that the Hungarian Government has earmarked one billion forints (EUR 3.2 million) for the preparation of the feasibility study for the planned high-speed railway line linking Budapest and Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsvár).
