Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyễn Thanh Phong met in Budapest on Friday to discuss cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary.
In a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI, the Minister said Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam’s economic centre and generates one quarter of the country’s GDP.
The city’s population has grown to 13 million, meaning there is significant demand for water management and food processing technologies. A 440 million euro tied aid agreement between the two countries will be providing an opportunity for Hungarian enterprises to expand within these fields, the Minister wrote in the statement.
Budapest’s Franz Liszt Academy of Music and the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory have concluded an agreement within the field of classical music, in addition to which increasing numbers of Vietnamese students are applying to attend Hungarian universities within the framework of Hungary’s Stipendium Hungaricum programme, which has offered 100 scholarship places for students from the Southeast Asian country to study in Hungary, Mr Szijjártó informed the press.
