Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó expressed his sympathies to those affected by the bus accident in Madeira on Kossuth Radio’s “Good Morning, Hungary!” show on Thursday.

Mr. Szijjártó wished the injured a speedy recovery and said he hoped the number of fatalities does not increase further.

Referring to the bus accident near Verona in 2017, the Minister said he knows the pain such accidents can cause. On 17 April, a bus driver on the Portuguese island of Madeira lost control of his vehicle, which left the road and rolled down a slope.

57 people were aboard the bus, 29 of whom – all German citizens – lost their lives, and 27 are currently being treated in hospital.
