Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó received Croatian Minister for Energy Tomislav Ćorić on Thursday. The parties agreed that the security of Central Europe’s energy supply remains one of the most important regional risks, and accordingly they confirmed their commitment to deepening Hungarian-Croatian energy cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI.

According to the statement, it would be a major step forward with relation to Hungary’s energy security if an opportunity were to open for purchasing natural gas from the south.

Mr. Szijjártó and his Croatian colleague both regard it as extremely important that the Croatian Government has come to a final investment decision on the construction of the LNG terminal at the island of Krk, and that the Croatian compressor station is being built according to the planed schedule, thanks to which the two-way flow of gas between the Hungarian-Croatian interconnector will become possible, the Ministry said in the statement.
