Péter Szijjártó is in Washington D.C., where he met with two of President Donald Trump’s influential advisors. On Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade officially opened the new Hungarian Embassy and on Wednesday he will be participating in a summit of foreign ministers of the global coalition against terrorism.

On Tuesday, Mr. Szijjártó held talks with President Donald Trump’s security policy advisor Sebastian Gorka, and with Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt.

On Tuesday evening, the Hungarian Foreign Minister took part in a working dinner with representatives of several members of the American-Hungarian Business Council, including Lockheed Martin, Fedex, Comcast, Citibank, Procter&Gamble and several other American enterprises present in Hungary.

In his speech at the dinner, Mr. Szijjártó stressed the effects of the profound changed going on in the world on political and economic strategy. “Many changes come from the United States and from Washington, and Hungary is glad to see the new approaches adopted by American politics”, he said. He indicated that transforming American economic policy is also creating a new situation within the global economy, and Hungary is committed to improving its competitiveness in this new situation and new environment.

“To achieve this, Hungary has chosen a patriotic economic policy”, he said, which he characterised as a “non-traditional economic policy”, highlighting tax cuts as its main element.

On Wednesday, Mr. Szijjártó will be attending a meeting of foreign ministers of the global coalition against terrorism and the Islamic State at the U.S. State Department.
