Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó received Secretary of State Francis R. Fannon, head of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources, in his office on Monday morning, the Ministry said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI.

In the statement, the Ministry wrote that Hungary has an interest in being able to acquire its energy requirements from several sources. This is not just an economic issue, but also a question of national security; achieving this “doesn’t solely depend on us”, however, the Ministry indicated.

“Hungary has taken all of the necessary action”, and accordingly Mr. Szijjártó asked for his American negotiating partner’s assistance in “facilitating the willingness to cooperate of the other Central European countries in the interests of improving the Central European energy supply”, the statement reads.
