Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó discussed the epidemic situation being caused by the coronavirus with his Italian counterpart, Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio on Sunday.
In a post on his Facebook page on Sunday, the Minister wrote: The Italian government and the Italian authorities are now facing a very serious challenge, particularly in Lombardy, and accordingly he assured the Italian minister of the Hungarians’ solidarity. “We agreed that exchanging data and information is vital to curbing the spread of the virus, and accordingly we agreed to remain in continuous and direct contact to enable the provision of an accurate picture of the epidemiological processes ongoing in each other’s countries, thus facilitating successful protection”, he added. The two ministers also agreed that in addition to protecting people’s lives and health, it is also their duty to assure the everyday supply of people and families. “The strict Hungarian border security measures are serving precisely this purpose: to curb the spread of the disease through monitoring personal travel, while also finding a safe solution for freight traffic aimed at supplying families and factories”, Mr. Szijjártó declared.
