"On Thursday, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó received Macedonia’s candidate for the post of United Nations General Secretary, Srgjan Kerim, and the main objectives of the candidate’s programme as General Secretary are in harmony with the standpoint of the Hungarian Government", the Ministry told Hungarian news agency MTI.

The statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade pointed out that the mandate of current UN Secretary General Ban Ki Mun expires on 31 December 2016.
Péter Szijjártó was the first Foreign Minister to be presented with a copy of the Macedonian candidate’s proposed programme.
Mr. Szijjártó and Mr. Kerim agreed that migration represents an ever increasing problem, the burdens of which cannot be borne by Europe alone. The causes of migration, such as military conflict, poverty and climate change, present an increasing problem, the solution of which also requires a fundamental and comprehensive reform of the United Nations.
The organisation must be made more transparent, more efficient and more flexible to enable it to face current challenges.
The parties also agreed that the activities of UN peacekeeping forces in the world’s crisis zones must be further increased, the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade states.
