At a meeting of Chinese and Central and Eastern European ministers of economy, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó held talks with Romanian Minister of Economy Costin Borc. The two ministers said that Hungary and Romania regard each other as strategic partners.
In a press release to Hungarian news agency MTI on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade stated that “At the meeting held in Ningbo, the Hungarian and Romanian ministers confirmed that both governments will make every effort to maintain the pace of expanding economic relations”.
Mr. Szijjártó said that last year Romania was Hungary’s second biggest export market after Germany, and the Hungarian-Romanian volume of trade exceeded EUR 7.3 billion.
In order to further enhance bilateral relations between Hungarian and Romanian companies, Eximbank has opened a credit line of EUR 370 million, and MOL, Richter Gedeon, MVM and Wizzair are also continuously expanding their presence on the Romanian market.
Progress has also been made regarding Hungary’s energy security: Romania will implement the necessary investments within two years, so that Hungary can also purchase gas from Romania.
Currently there are ten routes between Hungary and Romania which cannot be used due to a lack of border crossing points; therefore an agreement has been made on developments to be scheduled in order to initiate local border traffic.
