Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó received Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov at the Ministry in Budapest today.

The parties reinforced their cooperation in the interests of protecting persecuted Christian communities. The parties said they regard it as unacceptable that the international community has still not taken strong enough action in the interests of defending persecuted Christian groups, despite the fact that Christians have become the most persecuted religious group in the world today.

They also reviewed issues relating to energy security, with relation to which Mr. Szijjártó said that despite previous promises the infrastructure development projects in the region required to enable Hungary to receive liquid natural gas (LNG) have still not been realised, and accordingly Hungary has an interest in the realisation of a new southern gas transport route that could transport Russian gas to Central Europe via Bulgaria and Serbia by 2019.
