Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó received Secretary General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreyev in his office on Tuesday, the Ministry said in a statement to Hungarian new agency MTI.

“The Eastern Opening strategy plays an important tole in Hungarian foreign policy. In recent years, Hungary’s trade flow with Turkey and the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia has increased dynamically, in addition to which increasing numbers of students from the region are applying to attend Hungarian universities”, the statement explains.

“The Turkic Council’s Chamber of Commerce is waiting for the Hungarian party to join the organisation, and the Federation of Turkish Universities is also open to Hungarian universities joining”, the Ministry writes.

At the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó indicated Hungary’s willingness to enable the Turkic Council to open a European representation in Hungary.

On 3 September 2018, Hungary received observer status in the Turkic Council.
