“Péter Szijjártó held talks with Uzbekistan’s Minister for Investment and Foreign Trade; cooperation on the training of nuclear engineers could begin between Hungary and Uzbekistan”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Wednesday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó met with Uzbekistani Minister for Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Uktamovich Umurzakov, who is in Budapest to attend a session of the Hungary-Uzbekistan Inter-Governmental Committee for Economic Cooperation.

In the statement, the Ministry highlighted that in view of the fact that construction of Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant will soon commence, negotiations have begun on cooperation relating to the training of nuclear engineers.

In the interests of promoting cooperation between enterprises from the two countries, Eximbank has opened a 46.5-million-dollar credit line and concluded credit line agreements with two Uzbekistani banks. These financial measures provide assistance to Hungarian food industry, water industry and healthcare industry companies during their negotiations with Uzbekistani partners, and towards increasing their share of the Uzbekistani market.

“The cooperation agreement between the two capitals, Budapest and Tashkent, the 30 scholarship places offered to Uzbekistani students, and the visa-free travel afforded to Hungarian citizens by Uzbekistan, provide a good foundation for the expansion of social relations”, the Ministry’s statement reads.
