Péter Szijjártó informed NATO Deputy Secretary-General Rose Gottemoeller about Hungarian military developments in Budapest, the Ministry informed Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday.
In the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade stressed that Mr. Szijjártó had reported to his negotiating partner on the fact that there is a military development programme ongoing in Hungary, which not only serves the country’s security, but also the reinforcement of NATO.
The Ministry confirmed that Hungary is continuing to participate in NATO operations in excess of its means, in the spirit of which it is increasing its contingent in Kosovo by seventy and its contribution to NATO’s mission in Afghanistan by forty soldiers.
In addition, Hungary is participating in the air defence of the Baltic States for four months of this year.
In closing, Mr. Szijjártó indicated to the NATO Deputy Secretary-General that “Hungary will not be sacrificing the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia in any geopolitical context, and expects Ukraine to respect the rights of Hungarians living there”.
Rose Gottemoeller took part in the Ambassadors’ conference organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which began on Monday, in addition to which she also held talks with Minister of Defence Tibor Benkő.
