The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade welcomes the fact that the release of a Hungarian citizen, Előd Tóásó, who had been held captive illegally for years, is approaching.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó ordered both the ambassador and the consul of Hungary to Buenos Aires accredited to Bolivia to act personally at local authorities so that Előd Tóásó could leave the country as soon as possible.
The consular service is prepared to provide the appropriate technical assistance for him. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been continuously following the developments of the case; our consular service has provided and is providing all measures and assistance in accordance with its tasks and powers so that a Hungarian citizen tried in a country far away from Hungary can receive consular protection.
Hungary has acted repeatedly in recent years also by the means of diplomacy on several fora of international organisations – such as the UN, the European Union, the European Parliament and the Organization of American States – so that the Bolivian authorities shall respect Előd Tóásó’s human rights in line with international human rights standards as provided in international agreements and shall ensure a just procedure for him.
