Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó received Governor of Osaka Ichirō Matsui, the Ministry said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Monday.
“Next year will be the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Japan, which the Hungarian Government wishes to exploit to further tighten relations with the world’s third largest economy”, the statement reads.
The Ministry stressed that Osaka could play an important future role in the modernisation process of the Hungarian economy, in view of the fact that the headquarters of the companies that are developing the world’s most modern technologies can be found in Osaka.
At the meeting, Mr. Szijjártó expressed his sympathies with relation to the consequences of the typhoon that recently swept through Osaka, while the Governor provided the Hungarian Foreign Minister with a detailed briefing with relation to the city’s bid to host the 2025 World Expo, for which Osaka is competing against Yekaterinburg and Baku, the Ministry informed the press.
