Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó received Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Timur Suleimenov in his office on Thursday, with whom he discussed economic issues.
In a statement sent to Hungarian news agency MTI by the Ministry, Mr. Szijjártó stressed that Hungary is a committed supporter of cooperation between the European Union and Central Asia.
“The countries of Central Asia play an important role in curbing extremism and religious radicalism, and through their measures and stability prevent new waves of migration from setting out for Europe”, he said.
According to the Minister, trade flow between Hungary and Kazakhstan will exceed 700 million dollars this year, the Kazakh-Hungary Agricultural Investment Fund has facilitated the establishment of several joint agricultural businesses, and a joint working group has been established to develop cooperation within the field of nuclear energy.
In addition, over a thousand students from Kazakhstan applied for scholarships to study in Hungary this year, in view of which the Hungarian Government will be increasing the number of scholarship places from 200 to 250.
