Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó has assured the United States of Hungary’s sympathy and support following the Pittsburgh shooting that claimed 11 lives.
“It is with deep sorrow and regret that I learned about the horrendous attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. I would like to take this opportunity to assure every American of Hungary’s sympathy and support”, Mr. Szijjártó wrote in a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday, a copy of which was provided to Hungarian news agency MTI by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
As the Hungarian Foreign Minister wrote: “It is incredibly despicable and shocking that a terrorist chose to attack and murder people who had congregated to celebrate a baby’s name giving ceremony. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish the injured a speedy recovery”.
“Hungary has proclaimed a policy of zero tolerance towards Anti-Semitism and we reject and condemn all forms of racism and Anti-Semitism. Hungary stands by the Unites States in these difficult hours following the tragedy”, Mr. Szijjártó underlined, stressing that the United States and Israel can always count on Hungary’s support in the fight against terrorism and Anti-Semitism.
