According to Minister Péter Szijjártó, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke over the phone about the prospects of bilateral relations and opportunities of Hungarian-Russian energy cooperation following the cancellation of the South Stream gas pipeline project.
President Vladimir Putin announced in Ankara that Russia has abandoned plans to construct the South Stream pipeline project on account of the opposition of Europe and will instead develop a route through Turkey.
The pipeline would have delivered Russian gas to South and Central Europe via the Black Sea, bypassing Ukraine.
