Ecuador’s trade development and investment promotion agency ProEcuador opened a representation in Budapest in May.

The leading business agency of Ecuador, which has a population of almost 17 million people, operates 31 offices in 26 countries. In Europe it has so far been present in eight major cities (London, Paris, Madrid, Milan, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Stockholm and Moscow). The opening of the new office in Budapest is yet another success from Hungary’s Southern Opening policy, which focuses on Latin America, and is a clear indication of Ecuador’s interest in Central Europe.

The ProEcuador representation, which will begin operations as part of the Ecuadorian Embassy in Budapest, will serve the whole Central European region. The office’s main task, which will initially be primarily focused on the Hungarian and Slovakian markets, is to facilitate the market appearance of traditional Ecuadorian products (bananas, cocoa, coffee, fish, crayfish, cut flowers and distilled spirits), and to attract investors from the dynamically growing Central European region to the South American country. Its first event will be held in early July, and will showcase Ecuadorian foods and speciality gastronomy products.

Hungary reopened its Embassy in Quito in 2015, the priority task of which is also to boost economic and business relations.
