“On Tuesday afternoon, local time, a family of five, a woman and hopefully a man will be boarding the plane that the Hungarian Government has chartered to take them to Curacao from the island of St. Martin, which has been hit by hurricane Irma”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said at a press conference.

Reporting on the status of Hungarian citizens currently on St. Martin, the Minister said that late on Monday night four people, two couples, successfully left for the island for Curacao and Martinique, pf whom we know they are fine. There are currently thirteen Hungarian citizens on the island, as far as the Ministry is aware.

On Tuesday afternoon, local time, an aeroplane will be flying to the island from the Dominican Republic to pick up “six, or hopefully seven Hungarian citizens”, he said. They include a family of five, a woman, and hopefully also a man, with whom we were unable to speak to know, but have contacted previously, and we have asked his friends to inform him that he should make his way to the airport as soon as possible so we can take all seven Hungarian nationals to safety, Mr. Szijjártó explained. The Hungarian citizens will be safe in Curacao, where they will receive consular assistance and issued with the necessary documents, the Minister told reporters.
