The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary followed the presidential elections held in the most populated country of Africa. We express our appreciation primarily to the Nigerian voters who despite difficulties and occasional terrorist threats, used their right to vote in a peaceful manner.

Hungary highly appreciates the declarations made so far by President Goodluck Jonathan and Nigeria's President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari whereby it will be possible for the opposition to take over the governance of the country peacefully for the first time in its history. The evolution of Nigerian democracy could serve as an example for the entire continent, strengthening at the same time the commitment of the Hungarian government to the strengthening of economic and political cooperation with the countries of the African continent within the framework of the “Opening to the South” foreign affairs strategy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary congratulates the Nigerian people and is looking forward to further cooperation unfolding with the Nigerian government under the leadership of the newly elected President.
