Minister of State for Security Policy and International Cooperation Dr. István MIkola attended and made a speech at the UN Assembly’s high-level debate on human rights in New York on 12 July 2016.

In his speech, the Minister of State called attention to the close relationship between the realisation of sustainable development goals and human rights.

“Peace, security and development cannot be achieved without full respect for human rights”, he stressed, adding that “there are inseparable links between the sustainable development programme and the enforcement of human rights.” “Our human rights can only be fully enforced if we establish the right conditions for sustainable development, and the guarantor of a sustainable future is that we are capable of assuring everyone the full enforcement of their human rights”, Mr. Mikola said.

“The sustainable development goals set last year must be followed by concrete efforts based on a comprehensive indicator system to enable us to successfully overcome the challenges we face”, he continued. In summary, the Minister of State declared that “Increasingly close global cooperation, international monitoring mechanisms and the mutual exchange of best practices are leading to the birth of a more peaceful and stable world, where the full enforcement of human rights for everyone is becoming increasingly clear”.
