“The development of EU-Turkish economic cooperation is in the interests of both Hungary and Turkey”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó wrote on his social media page.
The Minister reported on his negotiations following talks with Turkish Minister of Commerce Ruhsar Pekcan on Friday. According to Mr. Szijjártó, he thanked his counterpart for the fact that the Turkish government authorised exports of the equipment needed for healthcare protection to Hungary “during the worst period of the coronavirus pandemic”.
The Minister also said he and the Turkish minister had agreed that “the development of economic cooperation between Turkey and the European Union corresponds with the national interests of both Turkey and Hungary”. “This is one of the reasons why I am calling for the European Union to attempt to come to an agreement with Turkey on trade issues, and for us to avoid the introduction of further duties and tariffs with respect to each other”, Mr. Szijjártó said.
“The Hungarian economy is an export-oriented economy, and accordingly it is in its interests for as few barriers as possible to hinder commerce”, the Minister added.
