At the National Assembly on Thursday the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that the outcome of negotiations about the free trade agreement to be concluded between the European Union and the United States remains uncertain; still it is sure that the government will recommend an agreement for parliamentary approval solely with Hungarian interests in mind.

About the planned free trade agreement Péter Szijjártó said during the debate day - held upon the motion of the opposition - that the government continuously follows the negotiations that they consider to be highly important, because the EU can only be strong if it is open to cooperation and under present circumstances, isolation would be a wrong response.

In his opening address the Minister emphasised that transparency and publicity are Hungary’s fundamental expectations regarding the negotiations and he was of the opinion that the EU should avoid falling between two stools in the competition in the field of regional trade integration.
