“The Hungarians previously trapped in Morocco following the closing of Moroccan airspace have been successfully returned home”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced in a Facebook post on Thursday.

“The plane with 142 passengers on board, including 108 Hungarians, landed at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport not long ago”, the Minister explained. He pointed out that previous reports mentioned 146 people stuck in Morocco, but that a few people had succeeded in leaving the country on an Austrian Airlines flight on Wednesday.

“In addition to the 108 Hungarian citizens, we also succeeded in bringing out 34 people from other neighbouring countries who were also trapped there, for which the countries involved have expressed their thanks”, he stated.

“Cooperation is extremely important at such times, since there will most certainly also be missions by other countries around the world, within the framework of which Hungarian citizens will also be brought home”, Mr. Szijjártó emphasised.
