“Romania’s President is deliberately harming Hungarian-Romanian cooperation by preventing the establishment of a new border crossing points between the two countries”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó wrote on his social media page on Friday.
Mr. Szijjártó was reacting to the fact that Klaus Iohannis raised a constitutional objection with relation to the legislation previously adopted by Romanian Parliament on the establishment of a road border crossing point between Kubekháza and Beba Veche (Óbéb). “Unfortunately, Romania’s President is an extremely anti-Hungarian politician”, Mr. Szijjártó wrote on his Facebook page.
Klaus Iohannis “is continuously getting Hungary and the Hungarian government entangled in the Romanian election campaign”, is “deliberately harming Hungarian-Romanian cooperation” with his latest decision, and is preventing a cause that is important to both the Hungarian and Romanian people, he added.
“Border crossing points opened along the border between the two countries are not just symbolic, but also have a practical significance: they bring the communities living on either side of the order closer together and make the lives of people living in the area easier on a daily basis”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade highlighted. “Vetoing the establishment of a new border crossing point means nothing other than the deliberate prevention of enabling the two nations to come closer together”, Mr Szijjártó stated.
“the Hungarian government remains committed to developing bilateral relations in view of the fact that this is also in the interests of Hungarians living in Transylvania and Szeklerland”, the Minister emphasised.
