According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, the security of the Hungarian people is the most important criteria in debates concerning migration policy and the UN migration package.

At a press conference on Friday on a different topic, the Hungarian Foreign Minister declared: “In Hungary’s opinion the draft of the migration package is pro-immigration to an extreme extent, and this is what we would like to change so that an anti-immigration package is adopted”.

“At the focus of proposals submitted to the United Nations Organisation by Hungary on Thursday is the fact that it is the right and duty of every country to protect its borders, and the international community must support countries in this endeavour”, he explained. “Respect must be given to sovereignty, to the fact that countries have a right to choose for themselves who they will allow onto their territory. In addition, according to Hungary’s position migration is a dangerous global process and instead of encouraging it, stopping it must be placed at the focus of international efforts”, he added.

“We will not allow anyone to ignore the country’s sovereignty and the security of the Hungarian people”, Mr. Szijjártó added.
