“The Soros university is continuing to generate hysteria, because it has an interest in doing so”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Wednesday.

In the statement, the Ministry stressed that the Government’s standpoint remains unchanged: “Hungary is a state that is  governed by the rule of law, and the law applies equally to everyone and every university, including the Soros university”.

The Government has concluded agreements with several universities from outside Europe on their operations in Hungary, in accordance with the Act on Higher Education; “the generation of hysteria is only occurring with relation to the Soros university”, the Ministry wrote.

According to the statement, “We know that the Soros university did not previously conduct education activities in the United States”. “We also know that the ‘campus’ of the Soros university is a wooden shed on the grounds of Bard College, which also has ties to George Soros, a high-ranking official of which has said that the courses of the Soros university are not taught in the United States; ‘there is nothing here’, it was stated word for word”, the statement reads.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, what is happening with relation to the CEU is “a Soros-style political bluff, an influence attempt”, with relation to which “we are awaiting an explanation from the CEU”, the Ministry’s statement reads.
