“The success of the companies operating in Hungary depends on how they link their production activities to digitalisation”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stressed on Tuesday in Székesfehérvár following a meeting with the directors of the city’s leading enterprises.

Mr. Szijjártó told the press that at the meeting he had primarily discussed issues relating to competitiveness with the representatives of Denso, Sapa, Videoton Holding, Harman, IBM, Emerson and Arconic. “We were in complete agreement regarding the fact that the global economy is undergoing an era of major paradigm change and this could give rise to new technologies”, he noted.

According to the Minister, the successes already achieved by the Hungarian economy may be important, but it is not enough to depend exclusively on these. He said that in his opinion further success requires the restructuring of the Hungarian economy’s strategy, and that will enable the Hungarian economy to continue to be one of the most competitive in Europe.

The Minister also spoke about the fact that the Government has reorganised the investment promotion system, giving companies an interest in new investments, developing technologies and digital transformation. Mr. Szijjártó and the company leaders said the dependable economic environment was also important, as is the fact that employees and investments are safe in Hungary.

In reply to a question, the Minister said the company directors primarily put forward proposals with relation to possible labour shortages, because “full employment is a good challenge”, but a trained workforce must also be assured, to which end the Government has launched adult education programmes and is funding vocation training shops and providing vocational training support to enterprises.

Mayor of Székesfehérvár András Cser-Palkovics (Fidesz) said the second method of providing manpower was to facilitate workforce mobility and provide workers with housing. The local government is striving to provide for the latter with public housing constructed within the framework of the government-funded Modern Cities Programme, he explained.
According to Member of Parliament Tamás Varga (Fidesz), it has once again been proven that both small and large enterprises are happy in Székesfehérvár and are continuing to plan further investment projects. In addition to the attractive investment environment, this is also thanks to workers, who are doing everything possible to assure the success of their employers, he said.
