Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó met with General Father of the Lebanese Maronite Order Nematollah Hashem on 27 May in Budapest, whom he told that the Hungarian governing party has achieved an epochal success at the European Parliament elections, which “is a confirmation of politics that are based on Christian foundations”.
At the meeting, Mr. Szijjártó stressed: “This election result is a confirmation to us that in the future we must continue to do everything possible to ensure that Christian culture receives reinforcement in Europe”. “In future, the Hungarian Government will continue to provide all possible assistance to Christian communities that are in difficulties worldwide”, he highlighted.
The Lebanese delegation expressed its thanks for the fact that the Hungarian Government is financing the renovation of 33 Lebanese Christian churches, which is “extremely important with relation to enabling the Christian community to remain in place”, the Minister stated.
