“The UN has not learned from the EU’s mistakes”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Hungarian M1 television’s current affairs program on Tuesday morning with relation to the UN Global Package for Migration.

“The EU’s failed migration policy has appeared in the UN’s plans, including for instance the false statement that migration is a fundamental human right and migration is the best thing that has ever happened to humanity”, Mr. Szijjártó declared. “In contrast, what is a fundamental human right is for people to be able to live in peace and security in their own homes. This is what the EU’s and UN’s migration policies are threatening”, the Minister explained.

“In an astounding manner, the EU has never once stood up for the people of Europe, for instance with relation to the security risks involved in migration or the increasing risk of terrorism, and has totally ignored the fact that the EU does not have a unified position on migration”, the Foreign Minister explained on Kossuth Radio’s “Good Morning, Hungary!” program.

With relation to the fact that a Ukrainian nationalist website has accused him of violating Ukraine’s sovereignty and inciting separatism, Mr. Szijjártó said there will be presidential elections in Ukraine next spring and the popularity of the current President is “at rock bottom”. “This is probably why Petro Poroshenko is inciting hatred against minorities, and primarily against Transcarpathian Hungarians”, he added.

“It is characteristic of this policy that while Ukraine was able to conclude an association agreement with the European Union with Hungary’s support, just five days later Ukraine’s Parliament adopted legislation that does away with exclusive native language education for the Hungarian minority”, Mr. Szijjártó noted.
