According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the statement made by the UN Secretary General on the situation in Hungary is “bizarre and outrageous”, and Ban Ki-moon expressed a position which is not “based on the real facts”.
In the communication sent to the Hungarian News Agency, Mr Péter Szijjártó responded to UN Secretary–General Ban Ki-moon’s statement made in a press conference in New York on Wednesday: “I was shocked to see how these asylum seekers and migrants are treated. This is unacceptable.
Each country has internal problems, but in this case, we are talking about people who are fleeing war and persecution, and “we have to be compassionate”.
In the communication released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Péter Szijjártó pointed out in this regard: “Aggressive immigrants attacked Hungarian policemen of whom 14 were injured. The police shielded and protected a mother and her one-year-old child who were swept away by the aggressive crowd. It is regretful that the UN Secretary General did not express his position on the basis of facts”, the minister said.
