The closing event of the 2017-2018 V4+South Korea Knowledge Exchange Programme organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade was held on 27 March 2018. In his opening speech, Minister of State for Cultural and Academic Diplomacy István Íjgyártó welcomed the attendees of the event. As the president of the Visegrád Group, Hungary has a range of priority responsibilities in the implementation of the 2017-2018 knowledge exchange programme.

Mr Íjgyártó stressed that the experiences of South Korea as a country that is a global leader in the areas of innovation and research and development are extremely important for the Visegrád countries. He underlined that the knowledge exchange programme greatly contributes to the efforts which serve to reinforce the V4 countries’ innovation systems. This is essential for competitiveness in the era of digital transformation.

In conclusion he said that the development of the innovation capacity of the sector of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), constituting the backbone of the Hungarian national economy, and the upgrading of their digitisation and technological capabilities are key economic policy issues.

The 2017-2018 V4+South Korea Knowledge Exchange Programme concentrates on the development of the innovation capacity of SMEs. As part of this, Hungarian experts discuss the issue of technology transfer with their Korean partners. The results of the knowledge exchange project, including specific recommendations, will be summarised by experts in a publication to be released in June 2018 which will be available to the wider public.
