Ryanair’s first Valencia-Budapest took off today and in future will be transporting passengers between Valencia and the Hungarian capital twice-a-week. The ceremonial launch of the first flight was attended by, amongst others, Deputy Mayor of Valencia Sandra Gomez, who in her speech highlighted the fact that the new air service could further tighten relations between Valencia and Hungary.

At the official launch, head of Valencia’s Tourism Agency Francesc Colomer said that following the 13th century dynastic links, the new route represents a new connection between Valencia and Hungary, which will facilitate the development of tourism and the reinforcement of business relations between the region and Hungary.

Hungarian Ambassador Enikő Győri pointed out that the number of Spanish tourists visiting Hungary has doubled since 2010, exceeding 162,000 last year. This increase is also partly thanks to the continuously increasing number of available flights. The new Valencia-Budapest route is the 13th to connect Hungary and Spain. Next year, a new air service between Budapest and Santander will also increase the number of available flights between the two countries. One of the first passengers on the Valencia-Budapest route was Jorge Segura, head of Grupo Segura, one of the largest Spanish investors in Hungary. Both Valencia and Hungary are placing increasing emphasis on developing quality tourism and wine tourism, which could be given new impetus by the new air service.
