“It is with shock that we received the news of the attack against the Russian Ambassador to Ankara, which we condemn in the strongest possible terms”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian news agency MTI on Monday after Ambassador Andrey Karlov was killed in a terrorist attack in the Turkish capital on Monday evening.

In his statement, Mr. Szijjártó said: “This tragedy is also proof of the fact that action must be taken against every form of terrorism”.

“We assure the family of the Ambassador and all Russian citizens of our deepest condolences”, the Minister added.

The Russian Ambassador to Ankara, 62 year old Andrey Karlov, died on Monday night from his injuries after being shot by an attacker. The attack occurred in Ankara’s Gallery of Contemporary Art, where the Ambassador was holding the opening speech of an Embassy-sponsored exhibition entitled “Russia as seen by Turks”. The attacker was shot dead at the scene.
