“The rampaging of pro-immigration politicians is continuing; they always want to cite the UN Global Compact for Migration in all EU documents despite the fact that 9 EU member states did not vote for it”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Sunday in reply to a question from Hungarian news agency MTI.
Several Hungarian news portals previously wrote, citing German news agencies, that according to an EU diplomat the Hungarian Government has rejected offers that were huge compromises for ideological reasons, and had isolated itself within the EU with its resistance.
In a statement to MTI, Mr. Szijjártó stressed that the Hungarian Government will never accept the Un Global Compact for Migration, which aims to organise immigration. “We instead have issued a policy of zero tolerance with relation to migration. We did not vote for the migration package and will not be supporting any document in the European Union or the UN that cites it. A document that not all member states agree upon cannot be a basis of reference”, he pointed out.
“The isolation of Hungarian diplomacy has been wishful thinking on the part of pro-immigration forces for years. Everyone who says no to immigration remains our ally. What is at stake at the European parliament elections in May is that we should be in the majority”, he added.
