According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, international companies are important in Hungary’s open economy, but “the soul of the Hungarian economy is provided by Hungarian-owned enterprises”.
“One of the conclusions that may be drawn from the coronavirus pandemic is that never again can Europe be so vulnerable to external stakeholders with relation to strategic issues”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó declared in a video posted on his Facebook page on Monday to report on an online meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
“Beginning on Wednesday, the obligation of the two countries’ citizens to enter quarantine after crossing the border between Hungary and Romania will be eliminated”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on his Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon.
“The restrictions concerning the state funding of investment projects should be lifted as soon as possible within the European Union, in view of the fact that funding enterprises would be extremely important in the interests of protecting jobs given the difficult economic situation caused by the coronavirus epidemic”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó emphasised on Tuesday in Vienna prior to a meeting with his Austrian, Czech, Slovakian and Slovenian counterparts.
“A new tender opportunity for Hungarian enterprises is being launched on Friday with a budget of 25 billion forints (EUR 72 million) to support cross-border investments”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on Tuesday in Parliament.

“806 Hungarian enterprises are receiving state funding towards their job-protecting investment projects within the framework of the competitiveness-increasing funding program, the total budget of which has already been increased from an initial 50 billion forints (EUR 145.3 million) to 169 billion forints (EUR 491.2 million)”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday.
