Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó has said that Hungary is providing illegal immigrants with care in accordance with international conventions – but only at reception centres and refugee camps.
There is a strong international media campaign underway against Hungary, and the planned quota system is a step in the wrong direction, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian daily Népszabadság.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó held negotiations with his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei by phone today to discuss the challenges Europe faces as a result of modern-day mass migration. Mr. Makei assured Hungary of the Belarus Government’s support in handling the challenges posed by the migration.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó has rejected comments on Hungary made by the Swedish Prime Minister with relation to the immigration crisis on Tuesday, which he said were unacceptable.
"It is extremely hypocritical and unethical” for certain western politicians to threaten to withdraw financial support while Europe is searching for a solution to one of the greatest challenges the EU has ever faced, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told Hungarian news agency MTI on Tuesday.
"For us solidarity means that we protect our (EU) borders", said Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó in an interview published in Monday's edition of the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, in which he also stressed that for Hungary the protection of borders is one of its highest priorities.
“Hungary is fully adhering to all EU regulations when handling and treating the immense numbers of immigrants, in addition to which it is doing everything possible to protect the external Schengen border”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a statement to Hungarian news agency MTI on Sunday.
According to Minister of State Levente Magyar from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann is again venting the anger caused by his own ability to act on the Hungarian Government and the Prime Minister.
“The member states of the European Union agree on six points with relation to the migration crisis”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó told the press following an informal meeting of EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg on Saturday.
