The Government has granted HUF 600 billion to families so far under the Family Protection Action Plan – the State Secretary for Family and Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Human Capacities informed MTI (Hungarian Press Agency).

Katalin Novák said that since July more than a hundred thousand families have applied for any of the incentives under the Family Protection Action Plan.

Nearly 64 thousand and 24 thousand applications have been received for the childbirth incentive loan and for the aid offered to large families for vehicle purchase, respectively, and more than six thousand people applied for the loan to be used for purchasing an apartment and the one that can be taken out in addition to the family housing allowance (CSOK) also appliable to families with two children, she said.

She added that nursery school capacities are being expanded and in January, the personal income tax exemption of women with four children and the Child Care Allowance (GYED) receivable by grandparents became effective, and with these all items in the Family Protection Action Plan have been started.

The State Secretary said that the state reduces the mortgage debt of families upon the birth of the second child with one million, upon the birth of the third child with four millions and upon the birth of each additional child with further one million each.

Families that already have children do not lose the opportunity of wiping off a loan either. If for example a third child is born into a family with two children or a fourth child is born into a family with three children, they can have four million Hungarian forints wiped off too, Katalin Novák emphasised.

The State Secretary also mentioned that the Government allocated two and a half times more money in this year’s budget – more than HUF 2,200 billion – to supporting families than in 2010.

The goal of the Government is to make family formation, having and raising children increasingly easier in Hungary. Furthermore, such supports also serve the purpose of stopping population decline, she said.

In this respect the State Secretary found it reassuring that for almost forty years the number of marriages has not been as high as in the past months. In November 2019, for example, twice as many people got married as in the same period of 2018.
